New Age music

New Age is like a brand new car. It smells good, sounds good and feels good.

But there is a darks side… In order to appreciate and enjoy New Age you’ll probably need to listen to it a couple of times. And with a couple of times I mean more than twenty times per song.
It sounds like a lot but it isn’t. Because you don’t have to repeat each song and there isn’t a time limit. So you can just repeat the whole album for about twenty times in whatever time span you wish.
After you’ve listened to it for a couple of hours in a row, you will find that you start to enjoy the unique sound of the New Age music.
There remains a question unanswered. Why do I need to listen to New Age music if it takes so long to enjoy?
That is because if you’ll start to enjoy New Age music, you will enjoy it more than any other type of music.  It is a big hassle to start enjoying, but it is so worth it.

Drum and Bass music

Today I’m going to explain to you what drum and bass is and why you should or shouldn’t listen to it.
Drum and bass is a music style which started around 5000 years ago. People back in those days didn’t have much except for cave and some wooden sticks. They started to beat the cave wall with the wooden sticks. They’ve created something we will now refer to as a rhythm. The rhythm sounded good, but there was something missing, it sounded a bit empty. So the cavemen decided to add some bass to the place. They created the bass by beating with wooden sticks on the carcass of a dead animal, preferably something big like a cow. So this is how drum and bass started and the music hasn’t changed much the last 5000 years.
The drum and bass of today is created mostly by computers and the sound is produced by the means of amplifiers and loudspeakers.
The folks who listen to drum and bass often dress like a caveman, that’s a tradition of a whopping 5000 years.
The music is really basic and has no melody whatsoever. The songs are hard to distinguish from each other, they just sound the same, and it’s like listening to the same 10 second song over and over again. Even though the music is simple, there are lots of kids listening to it. The drum and bass music will probably survive another 5000 years.

Listening to MP3

I started this blog because I’m a big fan of music. Music can be listened to in many ways, but I prefer listening to the music by FLAC or Apple lossless (M4A).

A long time ago I used to listen to CD’s, well not anymore. Cds are ancient, but the music industry ignores the fact that a CD is something most people don’t want to use anymore. I can order songs in low quality in the iTunes store, but I can’t download songs in lossless quality. And that’s a shame.
However, I still buy cds and rip them lossless to my computer so I can listen to them on my media player. So I never use my cd-player anymore.
But I wish there was a way to download lossless songs, a bit like the iTunes store, but then in lossless format.
I guess we’re a long way from that, because the music industry must be controlled by old men, otherwise they would have done this a decade ago.
Same goes for the film industry. Who uses DVD’s today? Most people use a media center to watch movies and if they don’t they will in the near future. But the movie industry is even worse than the music industry. You can’t download high-res movies legally from a website and that’s a shame as well.
Maybe in the next hundred years or so they will wake up...

Music in general

Music is always different to describe, but there is one thing in common with all the different music styles out there: It messes with your feelings.
Think about it, it doesn’t matter which artist or which style you listen to whether you like the music or don’t, it will always do something with you.
If you dislike the music you’re listening to, it will make you feel grumpy. If the music you’re listening to appeals you, you will likely feel better than you did before listening to that particular song. And the funny thing is that all the music styles have good songs and bad songs. Reggae for example produces very sad songs which will make you feel sad, but also happy songs to make you feel happy. And of course there are lots of songs which will do nothing to you, because they’re just too boring to listen too. So those songs will not do a lot to you, but chances are that you will feel less happy than you did before you turned on the song.
Or it can make you feel boring and you’ll probably skip the song to another song which will make you feel better.
Unless you’re present at a live show of some great band. You can’t skip songs and have to listen to the whole show and that without being able to turn down the volume. But the atmospher caan be worth it of course.

House music

I admit, my last article about rock music wasn't all that great. So I will try harder to come up with a better article than my last one :)

As you've probably read in the heading, I'm going to write about house music this time.

History

House music started in the early eighties in the United States of America. The house music was very slow back then, very different from the house music of today. It was a sub-culture genre back then.
House music didn't start out as a popular music genre, but in the years to come it became very popular. House music peaked in the early nineties.
In the nineties the music became faster and the bass was harder as well.
Today the house music evolved in lots of different sub-genres.
The sub-genres all sound alike. They've just decided to name every subtle difference in the music to a whole new genre. That is, of course, not fair. House music is all the same, so there isn't any need in converting a subtle difference in to a whole new genre.

House music is a music style popular among men, it isn't a female friendly genre. When the house music evolved in the early eighties, it was very popular among gay men. And it still is. If you fancy to go to a house party (that is how they call a meeting between house music lovers), you'll notice you're the only girl and if you're a guy, you'll notice there lots of guys and no girls. Great if you're a girl or a homosexual guy, not so great if you're a straight guy looking for a girl.

Conclusion

House music is nice energetic music genre to listen to. But the house parties, is not my cup of tea.

Rock music

Rock music is the only music I don't like.
I can be really short about rock music. It's so lame, I mean come on!

Bunch of old men playing drums and guitars, singing about stuff they've never done.

That's basically all that is needed to describe rock music. :)

Electronic music

The modern sound of music is just great. Everyone likes it!

Often the electronic music scene is
associated with young people. This is true of course.

Young persons just like to dance and cheer on house music and other styles of electronic music.

The reason for this is: Youngsters want to have fun, old people don't.
It's that simple.

But what is the fun in electronic music. The fun in it is the ability to dance without using your brain.
Dancing and thinking about school doesn't go well together.

In my last post I explained to you a brief history of reggae music. I'm not going to do the same thing here
with the electronic music style.

I guess we all know how it started.

Today's electronic music is created on a computer. Most
DJ's and electronic song creator use an Apple.
No, not the one you can eat, but the one created by Steve Job and his entourage.

Why?
Because an Apple computer is a computer with a nice looking exterior. And we all know that modern
Dj persons care about their image. Especially when they perform on stage.

Another characteristic of electronic music, is the loudness of the music when played.
Everyone who's ever been to a house party or similar parties know what I'm talking about here.
It's so loud it will almost make your ears bleed!
But it has to be loud, because if it wasn't that loud you're not able to feel the bass.
The bass must be so loud you'll dance without having to move.

That's it  for today! Bye bye!

Music

Dear blog readers,

This is my first post on my first blog. I will try to blog frequently, hopefully every day.

What is this blog about?

As you can see in the title, I will blog about music here and will post some music to listen too as well.

I will try to cover many different music styles, so that most people will find something they're looking for.

Well, that's not the only reason to post lots of variation in  music styles, another reason is I'm just fond of many different styles of music!

Reggae music

Well, now you know what this blog is about, we can get started!

The heading says it all, I'm going to start of slow and begin with one of my favorite music styles: reggae.

First a brief history of reggae.

Reggae started in the late sixties in Jamaica. Actually reggae eveolved from another cool music style from Jamaica called ska.

Basically reggae is a slower version of ska. Probably reggae music musicians smoke more pot than ska muscians :).

Bob Marley brought reggae to higher levels. He and his band made reggae big worldwide. Even today lots of people liste to Bob.

That's why I will illustrate my first post with a nice music video of  Bob Marley and the Wailers!

Listen and enjoy :)

Did you enjoy it? I did :)
